Does Size Matter at University?

Class size, I’m mean class size.

The overwhelming view is that smaller student groups gain more and learn more effectively regardless of their age and stage of education.

While university students may be more skillful at self-directed learning, they gain just as much as younger learners from enhanced time and attention from teachers.

The time lecturers spend with individuals increases, as does the quality of teaching. Teachers build closer, more understanding relationships with students, better support their learning and understand their strengths.

You can also improve feedback quality and provide more in-depth mentor-ship with fewer students. Pressure on individual lecturers is reduced, and guidance is more personalized.

Smaller groups also encourage quieter students to join in, get to know each other and offer better peer support when needed both in and out of the classroom.

What are your thoughts on class size?
