Forbidden Landscape

A Poem

In the mountains of Hogsback South Africa, standing at the edge, Photo by Author

Forbidden landscape
Crystalline waters flow through
Not wanting
Never asking for anything

Branches stretch and bend
At knees
Contour meets the earth
Budding thoughts dripping
With the morning dew
Mimic the flames that never diminish

Drum beat sweeps with ancient memories
Pounding at my chest
Running through my veins
A call from my ancestors
Marks my steps

An oath taken

Threads seen weaving over
My landscape
Meeting you
On every level
Following
The palm of your hand
Grasp what you will
Your seeds are not wasted
On grounds that fill a place
Of unburdened passion

I’m not sure the winds will meet you
But the bird will always sing your song
As stones seem to fall into place
Supporting our bare feet
A castle of combined beliefs
Intertwine at the gates
No one else can see
Drum beats in my chest

I can’t take another moment
Without you inside me
Whisper no more into the dark
Of night
But scream into my essence
Tearing me apart
Leave nothing but embers
on the ground

Time a fickle friend
Tossed to the shores
That can never mend
I release the thought
That I am here to feel another’s touch
Stone shadows move
On the walls of my room
As I drift off to sleep
