Why I finally joined the fight

It is no great secret that discourse and debate are fighting for their lives.

Whilst humanity continues to innovate and beat back the horizon on so many fronts, the fragile gitft of communication seems to constantly be in peril.

Despite my youth, I am distrustful of this new world of digital speech.

Ideas and concepts vanish as quickly as they appear, allowing little time to scratch below the surface. We foolishly compensate for reduced time by heightening our emotions and it has now become mandatory to opine on all things rather than watch, listen and wait.

This is not an unique opinion. Many people can explain and articulate this feeling far better than I ever could.

And so this is why, for such a long time, I complained but never did anything about it. Someone else, somewhere else would sort it out. Someone far cleverer than me will fix this.

It might happen. A hero of our time could emerge and once and for all banish this shrieking hate that has manifested itself in our daily interactions.

But I suspect not. The desire for change is one felt by many and in turn can only be achived by the many. We must, as a collective, seek to engage. To reach out. To understand. And, in some cases, to accept.

It is time, for me at least, to do something. Despite my misgivings and fears.
