My Childhood Memory of Chinese Painting

I love drawing things on any places available. This is a main reason why my mom always watch me tightly to keep me from turning room into a “impromptu” art studio.

Chinese parents are very conservative and sometimes do not encourage children to do whatever they like, especially those not helpful for getting good grades in school. I am lucky that my parents are very “casual” and flexible to give me space to “grow wildly”. The only thing they require is if I start something, keep it for at least “three days” before I move onto other interesting ones.

I always change my minds because there are so many interesting things in the world to explore. How could I waste my time on one thing? However, things are different once you find the one that attracts you deeply. And I think painting is one of the hobbies that I had been keeping for decade since four years old.

It is very painful at the beginning for me focus on drawing lines and dots for several hours. My hand always gets soured and mind gets distracted. Yet, “No pain no gains”, if something is worthwhile then it must be challenging.

After three years, I had my first piece winning Sydney World Calligraphy and Painting Prize as the youth participant.

What did I learn from this 10-year hobby is that if you really want something, show your effort to obtain. Only top percent of those who stick and achieve great success.

Today I read a point by Ray Dalio and want to share. He says that we need to be “Hyperrealistic”. Great “dreams” are rooted from reality. Utopian ideas do not make too much sense to help us succeed.

I am both “hyper realistic” and “romantic”. I thin these two important characteristics will assist a person to realize goals and live its own life!
