Why wont we ask the hard questions about NZ Tech scene?

Having been involved in taking NZ Tech companies into markets like the US for 30+ years the lack of intelligent debate or a willingness to ask hard questions leaves me a feeling of dread for the future of our kids.

Some simple examples of what I mean

At the turn of the century events like the Knowledge Wave had an impact an we had some hard conversations which saw a number of new initiatives which had a very real impact — some of which I contribute a lot of my own time to like The IceHouse and NZTE’s Beachhead program but nearly 20 years on despite the progress that has been made we are comfortable doing the same things and having the same conversations while has Liam Dann pointed out the numbers say we are going backwards!

Note: Im always happy to be wrong but I know from the my experience of competing, failing and succeeding in large complex highly sophisticated markets that not being prepared to have hard conversations and robust debates is the bedrock of mediocrity!
