Patriotically Masked Together

There are heroes among us and they are everyday people just like you and me. There are heroes among us who have not been given the time of day to shine and show their true potential. There are heroes among us who are young and old. There are heroes among us. The heroes are us and many of us are responsibly masked together in a common cause. And we make up a resistance — The Resistance.

The simplest and most successful of all the mitigation tasks is wearing a mask. With wearing masks and prudent social distancing protocols, countries hard hit by Covid-19 are able to slowly open up after months of lock down. This is most apparent from pictures of countries all across the EU where you see people gathering in parks and outdoor cafes. Their societies are re-engaging in some pre-coronavirus normalcy.

The coronavirus and reluctance from the top of our Republican lead government to set an example has exposed the deeper engrained virus infecting American society. There is a willing ignorance to equate personal freedom without responsibility to each other. There are those (mostly white) who feel entitled to their privileges without sharing them. Truth be told their privileged entitlements boil down to excluding all others from their own personal freedoms because everyone but them are not worthy. For those in the black and brown communities, this sense of negligent unworthiness has existed for all of America’s existence.
