Week 8

I picked the desk with the simple glass design. The main reason I picked this piece is because of the German word for haus. I just related to it because of taking German in high school. Also the desk…

Roller Coaster

T-Express in Korea

It was 3 years ago. Our grade went to the amusement park for the school trip. When we passed the entrance, everybody shouted and ran around except me. I felt like I was in another world.

The first place we went was the T-express roller coaster. It looked like a towering cliff. It also looked like a huge elephant. Suddenly, all the thoughts that might happen while riding it flashed through my mind:

What if I fall from it?
What if I drop something?

What if the roller coaster breaks?

I tried not to think, but couldn’t. In addition, my friends started to encourage me to ride it, maybe a bit too enthusiastically to the point where it felt more like they push me into it.

They said, “Are you scared?” So, I shout back, “NO, I’M NOT!” just for pride. I didn’t want to be a timid person at that time. But actually, I wanted to say that “I want to ride it later because I need more time to prepare myself mentally for it.”

But, 5 minutes later, I was in the line with them. I was regretting that I had let them pressure me into it. The time was coming. A few seconds felt like hours. While I stood in line, I kept on staring at the ground.

Soon after, it was time to ride. As soon as I sat on the seat, my mind went blank. I couldn’t think of anything. The only thing I remembered was that I was grabbing the safety bar very very tight.

My hands were so sweaty. BEEEEEP! The roller coaster started to move. My heart started to pump faster and faster. “TICK TICK TICK TICK” The roller coaster climbed up slowly to the top and reached the top. I shut my eyes tight.

Soon, I could hear people screaming. The rollercoaster was tilting at almost 90 degrees and dropping as if I was dropping from the cliff. I couldn’t make a single sound. I couldn’t even breathe well. The rollercoaster climbed up slowly and accelerated down which made me feel like floating and curved so quickly left & right that I almost broke my neck. So, I held the safety bar tighter. Thankfully, it ended after a couple of minutes.

The rollercoaster started to slow down and stopped at the station. I sighed in relief. My legs were trembling so much as if there was an earthquake. Everyone was saying that it was too short, but I disagreed. It was long enough for me!

After this ride, there were many other ordeals. I took other rides in this same way. But, as I rode more and more rides, I got adapted to it. So I was less fearful than before.

So what I learned from this experience was if you encounter many things, you will adapt to it. So, I want all the people who’re reading this to overcome struggles, obstacles and try out things that you don’t like or you don’t want. Because you will eventually get used to it. You might even like it after trying them. It’s not only about being good at riding scary rides but also it’s about becoming a better person by overcoming obstacles.
